Website Redesign FAQs
Over the past several weeks, we've highlighted how the new website supports MCC's enrollment goals and explored some of the changes employees will see. With the launch quickly approaching, we'd like to answer some of the most frequently asked questions we've received from faculty and staff.
What's different about the new website?
The new website has been redesigned to make it easier for prospective students to explore academic programs, find admissions information, learn about student support services, and discover what makes MCC a great place to learn.
You'll notice:
-
Easier, more intuitive navigation
-
Streamlined content with consistent layouts and messaging
-
Content written to guide prospective students from initial interest to enrollment
-
Expanded and enhanced academic program pages
-
An updated Faculty and Staff Directory
Behind the scenes:
-
Improved search engine optimization (SEO) to help prospective students find MCC more easily online
-
Enhanced visibility within AI-powered search experiences
-
Automated accessibility testing and monitoring to support digital accessibility standards
While the foundation for stronger search performance and AI discoverability will be in place at launch, improvements in search rankings and AI-generated results will occur gradually over time as search engines and AI platforms index and evaluate the new website.
Will there still be a myMCC portal?
Yes, you’ll continue to use myMCC to access important resources and complete processes such as time reporting and payroll.
What will I see on academic program pages?
Because academic programs are a central focus of the new website, the project team worked closely with faculty, staff, and students to refresh content and ensure it is clear and relevant.
Program pages are designed to showcase what makes each program unique and include information such as:
-
Career and transfer opportunities
-
Hands-on learning experiences
-
Student outcomes and potential career paths
-
Related programs and areas of interest
-
Student and alumni stories that bring the MCC experience to life
Together, these features provide prospective students with a more complete picture of each program and help them explore academic options that align with their interests and goals.
Why were academic departments removed?
Because prospective students typically search for academic programs, degrees, certificates, and career pathways, the new website is organized around programs, rather than departments.
During the content review process, we found that many department pages contained information already available elsewhere on the website, such as program descriptions, catalog content, and admissions information. To create a more streamlined user experience, content was consolidated or incorporated into program pages.
The removal of department pages does not diminish the important role of academic departments at MCC. Their work continues to be reflected through enhanced program pages, the Faculty and Staff Directory, and other academic resources throughout the website.
Why hasn't all the content been updated?
To prepare for launch, we first focused on the information and services that are most important to prospective students, including academic programs, admissions, financial aid and student support services. As we move into the next phase of the project, additional content will be reviewed and updated to align with current content standards and support search engine optimization (SEO) and AI discoverability goals. This work will take place over the coming months.
Departments will be contacted by the Marketing, Web and Social Media team to review and refine content, ensuring information remains accurate, relevant, and aligned with the goals of the new website.
This project does not end after launch. The website will continue to evolve as content is reviewed, updated, and enhanced to better serve prospective students and the broader College community.
Will I see the new website immediately after it launches?
During the first few hours after launch, some users may continue to see the old website or experience minor issues while internet systems update. This is a normal part of a website launch. After the site launches, if you do not see the new site, try refreshing your browser or clearing your browser's cache.
Can I request changes to my area of the website? Do I ask a web liaison?
One important change to the web process is that we will no longer have a network of web liaisons. Instead, area experts will be identified to coordinate change requests for each area of the college. More to come on that shortly.
In the short-term, if you notice an error that needs immediate attention, please email Marketing, Web, & Social Media (MarketingandWeb@monroecc.edu). Be sure to include the URL and where on the page the error is located.
Will existing website links still work?
The URLs on the current site will redirect to the corresponding webpages on the new site.
Will QR codes still work?
Yes, the QR code’s URL should redirect to the corresponding webpage on the new site.
Will there still be an A-Z index?
Yes, the A-Z index will continue to be available and can be found in the footer of the new website.
Is the new website ADA accessible?
Yes. Accessibility has been a priority throughout the redesign process. The website has been developed to meet established accessibility standards and includes automated accessibility testing and monitoring to support an inclusive user experience.
Is there a web governance team?
Yes, MCC will continue to have a web governance team. It will oversee website responsibilities and standards to help ensure information remains accurate, up to date, accessible, and aligned with institutional goals.
In addition, a web advisory board representing faculty, staff, and students will be created to ensure that the website continues to meet institutional and user needs.
Looking Ahead
The launch of the new website is an important milestone for MCC, but it is only the beginning. The website will continue to evolve as content is reviewed, feedback is incorporated, and new improvements are identified. Thank you to the faculty, staff, and students who have contributed to this effort and shared valuable feedback throughout the redesign process.
If you have additional questions, ideas, or feedback, please share them with us at Marketing, Web, & Social Media (MarketingandWeb@monroecc.edu). We're committed to providing ongoing updates and resources to help the College community navigate the transition successfully.
