Help Shape MCC's Financial Future: Financial Sustainability Working Group Seeks Your Ideas

Monroe Community College has established a Financial Sustainability Working Group to help identify opportunities that will strengthen the College's long-term financial position while supporting our mission, students, and strategic priorities.

The College faces ongoing structural budget challenges that are unlikely to be addressed through enrollment growth. Acting now gives MCC the greatest opportunity to preserve flexibility, invest strategically, and continue serving students and our community effectively. The Working Group has been charged with gathering, evaluating, and recommending ideas from across the College community.

We are inviting all employees and students to contribute ideas between September 25 and October 30, 2026.

Areas We Are Seeking Ideas On

We are particularly interested in recommendations related to:

  • New or expanded revenue opportunities
  • Academic, workforce, and non-credit programming
  • Partnerships and external collaborations
  • Facility and space utilization
  • Contract training and events
  • Process improvements and operational efficiencies
  • Cost containment opportunities
  • Vendor and contract optimization
  • Improved use of equipment, technology, and other assets

Ideas may be framed as things the College should:

  • Start
  • Stop
  • Continue
  • Do more of

What Is Not Within Scope

The Working Group is not considering:

  • Layoffs or reductions in force
  • Matters currently under collective bargaining
  • Individual personnel issues
  • Academic program discontinuance processes
  • Matters assigned to other governance or contractual bodies

Submit Your Idea

Complete the Financial Sustainability Campus Survey.

When submitting an idea, please be prepared to describe:

  1. What would change?
  2. Who would be affected?
  3. What financial impact might result?
  4. Who could help develop or implement the idea?

Additional Opportunities to Participate

Throughout October, the Working Group will host listening sessions across divisions and campus locations, including the Downtown Campus and the Public Safety Training Facility. Session dates and registration information will be shared separately.

Transparency and Accountability

All submissions will be reviewed through a structured process. The Working Group will maintain an Idea Tracker showing the status of ideas and documenting how recommendations were evaluated. Recommendations will be developed using data analysis, financial review, and SWOT assessment.

We encourage thoughtful, creative, and practical ideas that can help MCC strengthen its financial future while remaining focused on student success, academic excellence, workforce development, and community impact.
